HAVING THE RIGHT MINDSET

“The journey of a thousand miles they say begins with a single step”. It doesn’t matter the duration the journey will consume – it all begins with one single step. I wholeheartedly agree with this claim.

But have you ever thought about it, even though that single step has been taken, it does not guarantee the eventual success of that journey? So many travelers have failed to make it to their desired destination of success on account of so many factors, some of which are within their control and some beyond.

It has been discovered that a lot of ambitious travelers have failed to initiate their journey with the right mindset that will help prepare them for the storm that lies ahead. They were too consumed in their overwhelming view of the success they aim to achieve, and when they dive into the ocean to begin their pursue, they end up drowning and getting to nowhere.

Now, what does it mean to have the “RIGHT MINDSET”? This view can be better captured in the story of a Bedouin Arab that approached the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) with his camel. This Arab was confused as to whether he should tie his camel before coming to meet the prophet or let the camel lose and trust in God that nothing will happen to his camel. He sought the Prophet’s advice on this, and the Prophet gave him the divine advice;

“TIE YOUR CAMEL AND TRUST IN GOD”

This remarkable advice of the Prophet encompasses the whole idea of MINDSET. It means, take every means necessary, do whatever is within your control before you engage in anything, prepare for the worse that could happen, even if you are going to place your trust in God to help you make something become a reality, you need to put in some level of energy as well.

It is not enough for you to take the first step to initiate a journey without having every resource that will be needed.

A student who desires to graduate with a tasty grade point needs to have the right Mindset by attending lectures and studying in-depth without ever showing any attitude of laziness.

A Businessman who desires to have his business flourish needs to tie his camel by taking comprehensive insurance cover to help cover any liable risk that could dissolve his business.

A marriage aspirant who desires to have the best partner needs to tie his camel by taking his/her time to scout someone who suits his personality.

It’s really imperative for any traveler to make strict inquiry and come to some level of conviction for himself that the road he is about to plight is free of any danger, and if peradventure, there are evil vices that will obstruct the free flow of his journey, he should take every means necessary to take care of such vices before engaging in such journey.

This view has also been captured in the words of Ryan Holiday in his beautiful works where he said “Do your work. Do it well. Then let go and let God. ‘That’s all there needs to be”

 So, you should always remember when taking that first step to begin that journey, it should be laced with the right mind set of tying your camel by taking every means necessary to prepare yourself for what lies ahead. That is when the ultimate end of that journey will be guaranteed.
