PRODUCTIVITY OR BUSY

So many folks out there have got some kind of aspirations they so much desire to actualize. They strive hard enough in order to quickly attain the sublime aspirations of those goals and for this reason; they are completely swamped with so many tasks to get done to the point that the 24 hours in a day is just not enough.

But I’ve always had a question begging for an appropriate answer hovering over my mind for a while now and that is; “Is it everyone who’s got so many task at hand that is actually Productive or just Busy”?

Before such question can be anchored on any reasonable answer, let’s first make sense of what Productivity and being Busy are.

There are so many people out there who appears to be accomplishing a lot, always occupied with tasks and constantly being rushed to keep their heads above water. They are frequently being perceived as Productive fellows but in reality, are they truly being Productive?

The fact of the matter is a busy person does not equal a Productive person – I will kindly explain this with a simple scenario to bring our knowledge closer to my point.

Imagine someone trying to read 5 different books at a time and such person desires to comprehend the knowledge in those books. How do you possibly think you’ll retain any of those knowledge? If such person is not careful, all his efforts will be nothing but a waste of time.

I have equally heard different tales from the elders that I have hobnobbed with. They complain that they worked tirelessly when they were in the prime of their youth in order to live a blissful life at old age. But in the end, these aspirations of theirs were not actualized.
Then I ask myself rhetorically, were they actually productive during their young age or just busy like the fellow trying to read 5 books at a time.

We need to realize that just because someone is constantly performing a task does not mean they are making any move closer to their goals. Their struggle most time can be compared to a grazing cow that grazes without any direction.

A productive person on the other hand set crazy priorities that will make anyone gawk. This enables them take care of their goal in a way that the most critical thing gets taken care of first and receive the most attention.

Let me share with you what a brother said to me as he was about to resume for his first appointment with his employer. I said to him; Bro, if you can work there for say 2-3 years, you would have gained a lot of experience, and he replied “I don’t intend to stay there for more that 3-6months because I have other things to achieve”.

This is the perfect way a productive mind thinks.

It’s not about just being engaged in a particular thing, it’s about having a focus towards how you intend to quickly navigate through your hurdles.

You would find employees exhausting themselves by investing all of their time, efforts and knowledge in their place of employment. They think they are achieving a lot and all of sudden when they retire; it seems they have never done anything productive in their life.

There is a popular saying I tap into for motivation always. It says: “THE SAME AMOUNT OF ENERGY YOU INVEST IN YOUR PLACE OF WORK IS THE SAME AMOUNT OF ENERGY IT REQUIRES TO BE SUCCESSFUL”.

Also, a productive fellow is less distracted from temptations of various kinds – he learns to shut the doors of distractions and side tracks. He is so rugged in his pursuit and he frequently flood his mind with pictures and sensations of the reality he so desires to achieve.

In summary, a busy fellow has a whole lots of things to get done but for the productive guy, he has limited things to achieve because he has eliminated all those insignificant elements in his pursuit.

You should equally do the same – Whenever you set a target, you should know what your highest priorities are, figure out what the insignificant elements are and subsequently eliminate them. Ask yourself if you are being productive or just trying to appear busy. Be sincere with yourself, and trust me, the finish line is very near.

BE PRODUCTIVE AND NOT BUSY
