THE SLAUGHTERED RAM
The religion of Islam is one which
has billions of people practicing it, and it’s a religion that is decorated
with strict code of conducts of its members (MUSLIMS). I make bold to say that
there is no single act of worship in this beautiful religion, except that there
is a principle guiding its implementation.
This beautiful religion recognizes
only two festivals which are celebrated in a year and one of them is the
festive coming up on Sunday. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have picked my PEN to write
anything about this holy festive, but the great amount of misconceptions non
Muslims have about this festive keeps me puzzled. So I have decided to engage
my garrulous pen.
One of such misconception which I
will be writing about is the false impression about the Ram that billions of
Muslims around the globe will slaughter on that day. It is wrongly misconceived
that THE SLAUGHTERED RAM is a sacrifice made to appease some kind of deity.
I seek refuge in ALLAH from the
accursed devil from having such thought. I would only make one request and that
is, the non Muslims reading this, should please do it with an open mind in
order to get a good grasp of the message.
The same way performing the 5 daily
prayers, fasting in the month of Ramadan, going for Hajj (pilgrimage) and
giving charity are acts of worship which must be performed by every Muslim, so
is the slaughtering of Ram during this festive period is also an act of
worship.
Yes! You read right…We slaughter the
Ram to pay obeisance to our Lord’s command as one of the rites of this Holy
Festive and not the wrong notion of sacrifice that you harbor in your mind.
The Ram we slaughter is nothing
compared to the dog or duck or hen or the white ram, or whatever the herbalist or
idol worshipers sacrifices to appease his idols.
Let’s all base this argument on a
real life scenario before going into the scripture;
An herbalist or an idol worshiper
after sacrificing whatever he wants to sacrifice for his deities, he either pours
the blood of this sacrificed animal on his gods or sometimes leaves the meat of
the animal to rot in the abode of the deities.
But you know for sure that the Ram
that a Muslim sacrifices is not decorated with any of the cited case above. He
slaughters the Ram in his home and allows the blood to flow or perhaps buries
it up. He enjoys its meat with his families and friends and everyone around,
even the non Muslims. None of it is placed on an alter or reserved to appease
any deity as it is wrongly conceived.
And if you still think we are only
trying to cover up our secret, here is a verse to substantiate all of my
argument;
“It is not their meat nor their
blood that reaches Allah: it is your piety that reaches Him”. Q22:36-37
Guess what the subject of the above
verse is, THE SLAUGHTERED RAM!!!. Even Allah Himself has clarified it – He is
not interested in the meat or the blood. The only thing He is interested in, is
the piety (i.e did we actually sacrificed it to pay obeisance to His command or
just for a showoff). “Purity is to Him, THE MOST HIGH”.
I don’t know if I have done enough
with the colorful vomits of my garrulous pen, to clear these misconceptions.
But I am very certain of one thing, and that is, right now, you are definitely
having a second about your wrong notion.
From the guy with the garrulous pen,
I wish every Muslim in every corner of the globe an EID filled with Baraka. May
we live to witness more celebrations in life.
And lastly, I will humbly accept
(Ileya Meat from any corner). Trust me - it won’t do me any harm.
AND MY PEN REST HERE – EID MUBARAK.
